HEF Capital ProgramsHealdsburg Junior High School Library Tech ProjectDuring the 2008-2009 school year, HEF partnered with our amazingly generous community, businesses, students and staff to raise over $80,000 to fund Phase I of this project. Implemented this past summer, Phase 1 included making the entire HJH campus wireless, and providing 48 laptop computers, 3 printers, and laptop carts, which enable the laptops to be used both in the library and in the classrooms. Phase 1 also included 5 new desktop computers and updated library software. Another important aspect of this project is that Phase 1 funds extending the hours of the Library to provide additional access to library space for studying, research and accessing the new, expanded technology. Last, Phase 1 includes a teacher pilot project that provides training and support of “early adopters” of the laptop program, who will in turn share their lessons with others about how to optimize the use of technology in classroom instruction. The Healdsburg Junior High Library Tech Project second and last phase will take place over the summer once school is out, and includes a renovation of the HJH library to transform the space into a light and welcome environment conducive to student research, reading and working in teams. Some of the elements of this project include: improving the lighting, new library shelving and furniture and opening up the library space to the quad, and thereby making the library a welcoming focus of the school. Phase 2 will be implemented during the summer of the 2009-2010 school year. Our HJH students and staff will be able to come to school and enjoy a new, exciting library space that we hope will foster a love for reading, help students improve their computer skills, and provide a productive and inspiring space for all of our HJH students to excel. Henry and Holly Wendt provided the lead donation of $100,000 for the Healdsburg High School Library Technology Project that was completed in the summer of 2007, and has been warmly embraced by both students and staff alike. |
